Book Review: Last Sacrifice

Title: Last Sacrifice
Series: Vampire Academy (#6)
Author: Richelle Mead
Published: December 2010

Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules.

She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir’s Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir Princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardian to come.

Now the law has finally caught up with Rose- for a crime she didn’t even commit. She’s in prison for the highest offense imaginable: assassination. She’ll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.

But the clock on Rose’s life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back… and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your life is about saving others, who will save you?

My Thoughts: Before I started reading this book I read a review of this book where the reviewer was shocked by the murderer's identity. She couldn't see it coming at all! So needless to say, this instantly got me thinking about unlikely murderers and I soon decided on one candidate.

While reading this book I got a few new candidates that seemed more likely, but I never did let go of my first guess. And guess what? My guess was right! So the big reveal of the murderer didn't come as a big surprise to me! (I hope I'm not spoiling this book for any of you now!)

As fans of this series know, the love triangle between Rose, Dimitri and Adrian has been a big part of the series. And in Last Sacrifice Rose finally makes her choice between them! Quite naturally it doesn't go as smoothly as she had hoped, but the decision had to be done!

I have to praise Richelle Mead for creating the bond between Lissa and Rose, which allows Rose to be in Lissa's head and see the world from her eyes. This bond allowes readers to be in two places at the same time; to follow both Rose's struggle to find an unknown sibling, and Lissa's problems in court, as well as their mutual search for the murderer.

I have to say that Last Sacrifice was a good conclusion to the series. This series has been amazing, but I believe it was the right time to put an ending to it. Some series seem to drag on for too long, making the content suffer. (Hellooo House of Night series!)

I'm very excited about the spin-off series, Bloodlines, however! While there isn't any official information out about it yet (that I know of), Mead has shared some info reagaring it. And what I have read so far sounds great! It sounds like it's going to be different from the Vampire Academy series, since it isn't set in the vampire world, but in a normal human high school.
I think this is a smart choice of Mead, because readers aren't going to grow tired of the vampire-dhampir world from the Vampire Academy series. Now I really look forward to a fresh new series!

"Some series seem to drag on for too long, making the content suffer. (Hellooo House of Night series!)" SO TRUE!!!

But wait, how is Bloodlines supposed to take place in a normal high school? It is told from Adrian, Jill, Sydeny and Eddie's POV. None of them are technically human...

I am so inspired by your views. I picked up a copy of Vampire Academy. It's in my slush pile right now ... even still: thank you for suggesting it!

I heard that Sydney will be the one to narrate it—the Bloodlines.

I really wish Lissa and Rose will still be a part somehow :D
