Book Review: Jessica's Guide To Dating On the Dark Side

Title: Jessica's Guide To Dating On the Dark Side
Author: Beth Fantaskey
Release Date: 2009
Summary (from goodreads): The undead can really screw up your senior year ...

Marrying a vampire definitely doesn’t fit into Jessica Packwood’s senior year “get-a-life” plan. But then a bizarre (and incredibly hot) new exchange student named Lucius Vladescu shows up, claiming that Jessica is a Romanian vampire princess by birth—and he’s her long-lost fiancĂ©. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: A Teen Vampire’s Guide to Dating, Health, and Emotions, Jessica makes a dramatic transition from average American teenager to glam European vampire princess. But when a devious cheerleader sets her sights on Lucius, Jess finds herself fighting to win back her wayward prince, stop a global vampire war—and save Lucius’s soul from eternal destruction.

My Review: I had seen great reviews of this book everywhere, and it was on a lot of book bloggers 2009 top lists - of course I had to buy it!

So, did Jessica's Guide To Dating On the Dark Side live up to my huge expectations? Sadly no. I wish I could say that I loved it, but unfortunately I didn't :(

Somehow I think that the book dragged a bit, it was 350 pages long and the pace was slow. Lucius was a bit too old-fashioned, brooding and hot and cold for me, he didn't appeal to me much. I liked Jessica a bit better, although she was a bit naive and stubborn, and it took her weeks before she admitted that vampires existed. Even though Lucius showed her his fangs, she was convinced that it was all a trick. . .

Lucius and Jessica's relationship built up slowly, which was a nice change from books were the characters falls head over heels in love after a day.

Overall, this was a decent book with decent characters.

I've never heard of this book before, but it DOES sound interesting. It's a shame it didn't live up to your expectations!
