Cover Combat: Sookie Stackhouse Novels

The first three books in the Sookie Stackhouse series are being released in Swedish at the end of the month. And they are followed by book 4-6 in August. To celebrate this I decided to do a "Cover Combat" post between the US covers and the fresh Swedish covers. Let's have a look!

US Covers:

Swedish Covers:

Which covers do you prefer?
I'm not a huge fan of the US covers, they're simple and original, but definitely not my taste! The Swedish covers however - I really like them! I like that the pictures are painted, not photographs. I also really like that the covers aren't focused on Sookie, but on the main characters in each book. For example, Eric's on the cover of Club Dead, the witches on the cover of Dead To The World etc. My favorite Swedish covers are probably number 1, 3 and 5! The covers for book 3 and 5 are dramatic and have a lot of attitude, and Sookie looks really pretty on the cover of Dead Until Dark.

But what do you think? Leave your opinions in the comments! :)

Oddly enough, I prefer the swedish covers. i didn't expect to for some reason, as I tend to like the sort of animated feel of the US covers. but there's something smooth and sexy about the swedish covers. . .

The Swedish covers look great! I love the way they've depicted the characters, they look just as I'd imagined them to :) The US ones I've never loved, they really do look too childish ... if there hadn't been other covers available (the True Blood ones), which I don't love either, but are better, I'd probably never have tried reading the books (and wouldn't have known what I was missing out on!!!). The only reason I'm not buying Dead in the Family yet, even though I'm dying to read it, is because the cover is Not Attractive, and I have no desire to own it in hardcover :s

Those Swedish covers are cool! I adore them. I lived there, I would probably buy those ones. They seem so more sophisticaded. :)

I love the Swedish covers! I am not a fan of the US ones, I found them to be dull and not at all reflective of the stories.

Thanks for sharing!

I agree. While I think the US covers are okay, the Swedish ones are MUCH more compelling.

I am quite liking the dutch cover and like yourself I like the face that they depict the central characters of each book on the cover. I also like that they aren't photos and are painted like you said.

I like the pale girl on the covers also but that's because those are the ones that were available when I bought them.

I'm not a fan of the animated cover art really..to me it seems a bit childish and these books are definitely not for children.

I agree with Naomi that the US covers is to childish. But they are pretty. I like the Sweidhs ones more because they suit the story better. And they look really good. I like the second one best.
