Mini Reviews XVIII: Between Here And Forever, Sometimes It Happens & The Summer of Firsts and Lasts

Title: Between Here And Forever

Author: Elizabeth Scott

Published: May 2011

Abby accepted that she can’t measure up to her beautiful, magnetic sister Tess a long time ago, and knows exactly what she is: Second best. Invisible.

Until the accident.

Now Tess is in a coma, and Abby’s life is on hold. It may have been hard living with Tess, but it's nothing compared to living without her.

She's got a plan to bring Tess back though, involving the gorgeous and mysterious Eli, but then Abby learns something about Tess, something that was always there, but that she’d never seen...

My Thoughts:

Abby´s firm belief that Tess was so much better, more beautiful and popular were quite tiring to say the truth. I wished that she would have listened more to the people around her, and believed more in herself.

A realistic, raw and emotional read, but not my favorite Elizabeth Scott book.

Title: Sometimes It Happens

Author: Lauren Barnholdt

Published: July 2011

On the last day of her junior year, Hannah's boyfriend Sebastian dumped her. Facing a summer of loneliness, Hannah turns to her best friend Ava for comfort. Ava does what BFFs do: she stays by Hannah's side...until it's time for Ava to head up to Maine for the summer.

Also left behind is Ava's boyfriend, Noah, who's such a great guy he gets Hannah a job at the diner he waits tables at. Slowly, Hannah comes out of her funk thanks to Noah's good conversation and their fun times at the diner. But things get complicated when their friendship turns into attraction--and one night, into a passionate kiss...

My Thoughts:

Sometimes It Happens is a great summer read! And by far my favorite book among those featured in this post!

I have to say that Noah is perfect boyfriend material! He is such a sweet and caring guy! A nice change from the popular "bad boy" in young adult books today.

Title: The Summer of Firsts and Lasts

Author: Terra Elan McVoy

Published: May 2011

Three sisters. One life-changing summer.

Calla loves summer because summer means Duncan. They’ve been best friends for years, but Calla has never worked up the nerve to tell him how she really feels. This summer, the summer before college, is Calla's last chance.

Violet isn't much of a rule breaker in real life. But this isn't real life, this is summer, and Violet is determined to make the most of it. Besides, a little sneaking out never hurt anyone. And sneaking out with James is 100% worth the risk...even though James is completely off-limits.

Daisy has never been the sister that boys notice, but when sparks fly with Joel at the first bonfire of summer, it seems so easy and right. So why is being his girlfriend so complicated?

My Thoughts:

It was quite interesting to read a book set at a summer camp, since I have no experiences of camp myself. I also liked reading about the three sisters and their complicated relationship.

Other than that, I didn't feel like this book had anything "special", it's probably more suited for younger teens.

The ending (who weren't happy for everyone) felt realistic, but also sad.

I really want to read Between Here and Forever. I've read 2 books by Elizabeth and I've loved them both. I love the cover for Sometimes It Happens. It's so simple yet pretty. I need to read something by Lauren. Fantastic mini reviews, Sara. Thank you! =)

I'm glad you liked Sometimes It Happens! I Loved it too. Noah was the best, liked him a lot. ;)

I would have thought The Summer of Firsts and Lasts would be better. Sorry to hear that it's a more suitable for younger teens. Not sure if I want to read it now. I do love happy endings. ;)
