Top 3 of 2010: Biggest Disappointments

Sadly, not every book I read makes my "favorites list". Here are a few books that disappointed me during 2010:

1. House of Night series - Kristin & P.C. Cast
From what I understand, the House of Night series have a pretty big following. Why??
This series is so uneven, one book is unbelievably bad, the next pretty good. Sadly I've found most of the books bad. And the characters are not even likeable! Nope, totally confused about this series fan base! Trust me kids, this is not the "new" Twilight!

2. Shiver - Maggie Stiefvater
Chocked? I know that this book is among many bloggers' favorites, but for me it just didn't do it. I couldn't get into the book, and it took me months to finish this book! I'm usually a fast reader, but this book moved too slow for me. Sure, the love story was cute, but I didn't feel much for the characters, and the plot was too tedious to grab me. This book did get a bit better in the end though, but I still think that the plot moved to slow, and that the characters were too dull and unilateral...

3. Cat the Vamp - Christina Martine
The tale of a selfish, evil newborn vampire addicted to drinking (alcohol and blood), smoking and drugs. A good read for young adults? Nope. A good read for anyone? Don't think so!

4 not-so-honorable mentions:

Breathing - Cheryl Renee Herbsman: This is another book I had a hard time finishing, mostly because it was written in Southern American English.
fallen
The Seven Rays - Jessica Bendinger: I was expecting way more from the author of "Bring It On"!
Jessica's Guide To Dating On The Dark Side - Beth Fantaskey: This is another book bloggers seem to love. For me it was just a decent read with decent characters that dragged on for too long.
Fallen - Lauren Kate: I'm sure I would have like this one more if the paranormal aspect came as a surprise. While I was reading this book I found myself suspecting almost every character to be "a bad guy" or some sort of unhuman creature - and when almost all characters turned out to be a supernatural being it felt quite unbelievable and disappointing.

Ooh, I loved Shiver. :) Jessica's Guide To Dating On The Dark Side, really? I heard so many good things about it. Mmm, wondering if I will like it.

You didn't like HON? I mean I've only read the first two in the series but so far I'm enjoying it. I havn't read the other two on your list. I suppose everything is just not for everyone ya know.

Gotta agree with you on two of these. Although I'm a fan of some of the HON books, this series is just not consistent enough. As you say, some of the books are just not good... and when is this series ever going to end? It seems like the author is just doing everything she can at this point to keep it going. I'm starting to get really frustrated.

I also felt the same about Shiver. I had such a hard time reading this book, and eventually ended up stopping in the middle. It just wasn't drawing me in at all. I think the pacing was just too slow to keep my interest. This is unusual for me. I've been surprised to see how many people really rave about this story.

I have not read the House of Night series although I have heard many, many things on it. I just don't think this series is for me. And I actually really enjoyed Shiver. I can't wait to read the third book in the series. Fallen wasn't my favorite either.
