Paranormalcy - Kiersten White
Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.
But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal.
Personal Demons - Lisa Desrochers
Frannie Cavanaugh is a good Catholic girl with a bit of a wicked streak. She has spent years keeping everyone at a distance—-even her closest friends—-and it seems as if her senior year is going to be more of the same . . . until Luc Cain enrolls in her class. No one knows where he came from, but Frannie can’t seem to stay away from him.
What she doesn’t know is that Luc is on a mission. He’s been sent from Hell itself to claim Frannie’s soul. It should be easy—-all he has to do is get her to sin, and Luc is as tempting as they come. Frannie doesn’t stand a chance. But he has to work fast, because if the infernals are after her, the celestials can’t be far behind. And sure enough, it’s not long before the angel Gabriel shows up, willing to do anything to keep Luc from getting what he came for. It isn’t long before they find themselves fighting for more than just Frannie’s soul.
But if Luc fails, there will be Hell to pay . . . for all of them
Thank you so much Karla! Both this books look amazing, and they have been on my wishlist for months!

Title: Demonglass (Hex Hall #2)
Author: Rachel Hawkins
Release Date: March 1
OBS! Summary contains spoilers!
(if you haven't read Hex Hall)
Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.
That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.
Turns out, Sophie’s a demon, one of only two in the world—the other being her father. What’s worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers.
But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They’re demons too. Meaning someone is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Archer to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?
I surprisingly ended up liking Hex Hall a lot, and after the cliffhanger-ish ending I'm dying to read Demonglass!

Mini Reviews XIII
Endless Summer - Jennifer Echols
I will start this review by saying that I adore Adam Vader! I loved his character while reading The Boys Next Door, and after this book I love him even more! He is so sweet, impulsive, adventerous - a daredevil! The fact that he has ADD and therefor have a hard time concentrating and sit still, and mostly speaks before he thinks, makes him even more adorable and charming! After Lori has been grounded Adam tries so much to improve himself and to prove himself worthy of being Lori's boyfriend. He wants to be responsible and mature but it's soo hard for him.
This book is told from both Adam and Lori's point of view, and it was real fun to see Lori through Adam's eyes. She seemed like a tomboy in The Boys Next Door, but in this book we see a more flirty and girly side of her.
While Endless Summer isn't as amazing as TBND it is a great sequel well-worth reading. This series is so funny, romantic, sporty, flirty and summery – I love it!

Nailed - Jennifer Laurens
Nailed has been on my wish list since I read an excerpt from it ages ago. It sounded fun, romantic and full of sizzling hot guys. And it sure was.
I never thought I would say this about a book, but Nailed was almost too full of flirting, teasing and sexual tension. I loved the bantering and flirting in the beginning – I mean who wouldn't love to read about hot, muscular shirtless guys? But when the flirting continued until the very last pages of the book, it got not exactly tired, but mundane.
I am estimating that almost everyone who reads this book will figure out which guy Mandy is going to choose way before she knows it herself, we have read enough romantic books to know that. So to keep readers interested in the story, Laurens has to add something extra to the plot line; a conflict, a twist – anything. The story lacked that something who makes it stand out, I think it needed more substance or an additional story line outside of the construction site. But as it was, the feeling I get in my stomach when I not just like but love a book, was missing. Therefor Nailed will get a Rating of 3.5 of 5

In My Mailbox: Week 3
After a couple of slow weeks book-wise, this week's harvest was fantastic! This is what I got in my mailbox:
When Carlos Fuentes returns to America after living in Mexico for a year, he doesn’t want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid out for him at a high school in Colorado . Carlos likes living his life on the edge and wants to carve his own path—just like Alex did. Then he meets Kiara Westford. She doesn’t talk much and is completely intimidated by Carlos’ wild ways. As they get to know one another, Carlos assumes Kiara thinks she’s too good for him, and refuses to admit that she might be getting to him. But he soon realizes that being himself is exactly what Kiara needs right now.

For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.
Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. Being Nikki - Meg Cabot
Things aren't pretty for Emerson Watts.
Em was sure there couldn't be anything worse than being a brainiac the body of a teenaged supermodel.
But it turned out she was wrong. Because that supermodel could turn out to have a mother who's gone mysteriously missing, a brother who's shown up on her doorstep demanding answers, a former best friend who's intent on destroying Stark Enterprises to avenge the death of his lost love, and a British heartthrob who's written a song about her that's topping the charts.
How can Em balance all that with school, runway shows, and weekend jaunts to St. Johns — especially when she's got ex-boyfriends crawling out of the woodwork who want more than just a photo op; a sister who is headed to the high school cheerleading championships; a company she represents that seems to be turning to the dark side...
Not to mention trying to convince the love of her life that models aren't really airheads after all...especially one model in particular.
But then, nobody said it was going to be easy being Nikki.

Book Review: The Dark Divine
Title: The Dark Divine
Author: Bree Despain
Published: December 2009
My Thoughts: Before reading this book I had a few concerns about the main character, because a pastor's daughter named Grace Divine? Definitely makes me feel that she will be conservative, moralistic, and eager to please everyone. But Grace was way more likeable and way fiercer than that! She was strong-minded and stubborn, and really wanted to do the right thing.
Daniel was the ultimate bad boy – hot, mysterious, dark, dangerous and haunted. All attributes that makes a guy so interesting and attractive. You root for him, and want to help him. I am sure many readers will get a book crush on him!
I more than once thought I had this story figured out, only to get more confused than ever during the next chapter!
This book is full of twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end, and you never know what the story has in store next for Grace, Daniel and the other characters.
I have read that the sequel, The Lost Saint, is even better than The Dark Divine, so that book can obviously be found on top of my wish list!

Book Review: Anna and the French Kiss
Title: Anna and the French Kiss
Author: Stephanie Perkins
Published: December 2010
My Thoughts: This book has been on many bloggers top list of 2010, and that's a well deserved position. Anna and the French Kiss is a great contemporary novel, set in the romantic and historical settings of Paris, France. The book deals with the anxiety of starting a new life and meeting new people, in Anna's case moving to Paris to attend an international school. At first she's sad, insecure and she wants to go back home to her friend, family and the possible boyfriend she left behind. But with time she is getting more comfortable on her own, and she grows attached to the city. One small step at the time, she more secure, independent and suddenly she feels at home in Paris. A big reason for Anna's development and newfound independency is St. Claire, the loveable British-American guy in her school, as well as her other new friends.
Anna's story is soo realistic, and the settings well described. In the YA world where girls falls head over heels in love with a boy in a matter of a week (or a day), Anna and St. Claire's relationship offers a refreshing taste of reality. Their relationship is not based on good looks only, but on similar interests, trust, an equal understanding and a great friendship. There are conflicts and set-backs, insecurity, doubts, magical moments and every-day events – just like in real relationships.
Another thing I liked about this book was that it contained so much ”regular stuff” that other books leave out if it isn't crucial to the plot line - like eating breakfast, going to the movies, doing homework, and just talking – about anything and everything.
Though I thought the book was very good, in my mind it missed that little extra to make it truly fantastic. So I give Anna and the French Kiss a rating of 4.25 of 5

Published: December 2010
Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris—until she meets Étienne St. Claire: perfect, Parisian (and English and American, which makes for a swoon-worthy accent), and utterly irresistible. The only problem is that he's taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her almost-relationship back home.
As winter melts into spring, will a year of romantic near-misses end with the French kiss Anna—and readers—have long awaited?

Book Review: Mockingjay *spoiler free*
Title: Mockingjay
Series: The Hunger Games (#3)
Author: Suzanne Collins
Published: 2010
My Review: Mockingjay is a satisfying conclusion to the Hunger Games trilogy. It isn't as action-filled as the first two books, there are more thinking and planning than actually fighting.
Since this book isn't set in the Hunger Games arena, there aren't as much death traps and inhuman beings - which I liked since the impressionistic descriptions of different ways of dying and suffering are sometimes too disgusting to read about. There are some however, so don't worry if you do like them!
So, we all know that readers are divided into "Team Peeta" and "Team Gale". But does Katniss make her decision between them in this book? Yes, she does. And judging from events in this book, I believe she made the correct choice.
Katniss yet again shows us what a smart, surviving girl she is. She always has her own plan, as well as several back-up plans, and barely trusts no one but herself - necessary if you want to survive the Hunger Games!
I think Mockingjay was a great (but not fantastic) conclusion to the series, where Katniss got her well deserved happy-ever-after.

Top 3 of 2010: Biggest Disappointments
Sadly, not every book I read makes my "favorites list". Here are a few books that disappointed me during 2010:
1. House of Night series - Kristin & P.C. Cast
From what I understand, the House of Night series have a pretty big following. Why??
This series is so uneven, one book is unbelievably bad, the next pretty good. Sadly I've found most of the books bad. And the characters are not even likeable! Nope, totally confused about this series fan base! Trust me kids, this is not the "new" Twilight!
2. Shiver - Maggie Stiefvater
Chocked? I know that this book is among many bloggers' favorites, but for me it just didn't do it. I couldn't get into the book, and it took me months to finish this book! I'm usually a fast reader, but this book moved too slow for me. Sure, the love story was cute, but I didn't feel much for the characters, and the plot was too tedious to grab me. This book did get a bit better in the end though, but I still think that the plot moved to slow, and that the characters were too dull and unilateral...
3. Cat the Vamp - Christina Martine
The tale of a selfish, evil newborn vampire addicted to drinking (alcohol and blood), smoking and drugs. A good read for young adults? Nope. A good read for anyone? Don't think so!
4 not-so-honorable mentions:
Breathing - Cheryl Renee Herbsman: This is another book I had a hard time finishing, mostly because it was written in Southern American English.
fallen
Fallen - Lauren Kate: I'm sure I would have like this one more if the paranormal aspect came as a surprise. While I was reading this book I found myself suspecting almost every character to be "a bad guy" or some sort of unhuman creature - and when almost all characters turned out to be a supernatural being it felt quite unbelievable and disappointing.

Top 3 of 2010: Best Books
All books below were read by me in 2010 - and they are the best stand-alone books I read in 2010. Great books I read which were part of a series will be listed in Part 4: Best Series.
2. The Alpha Bet - Stephanie Hale
This book was filled with drama, laughter, pranks, great friendship and. . .lies.
Grace Kelly, the narrator, was a person I could identify myself with, and she was a great, realistic character. Read it!
3. Twenties Girl - Sophie Kinsella
Twenties Girl is so much deeper than a regular chic-lit book. It's funny, sad, romantic and soo sweet!
3 Honorable mentions:
The Ex-Games - Jennifer Echols
Wild Heart - Lori Brighton
Girls, Boys and Other Hazardous Materials - Rosalind Wiseman
1. Going Too Far - Jennifer Echols
Going Too Far is the perfect romatic drama! Not to mention that John After, the love interest, is a totally hot cop! ;)

Title: Forsaken
Series: Demon Trappers #1
Author: Jana Oliver
Release Date: January 7
Riley has always wanted to be a Demon Trapper like her father, and she's already following in his footsteps as one of the best. But it's tough being the only girl in an all-guy world, especially when three of those guys start making her life more complicated: Simon, the angelic apprentice who has heaven on his side; Beck, the tough trapper who thinks he's God's gift, and Ori, the strikingly sexy stranger who keeps turning up to save her ass. One thing's for sure - if she doesn't keep her wits about her there'll be hell to pay...

Book Review: Reaper
Title:Reaper
Series: Soul Screamers
Author: Rachel Vincent
Published: 2010
Tod Hudson was a typical teenager. He liked girls, sports, food and tolerated his younger brother, Nash. In fact, he had his whole life in front of him--and due to his bean sidhe heritage, it was going to be a very long life indeed. And then the car accident occurred.
Suddenly Tod's future wasn't so sure, and he had to make a choice. Life... Death... or something Between....
Rachel Vincent, please give us more Tod!
I'm realizing I'm sounding like a Twilight fan who wants all Twilight books written from Edward's point of view, but really, how fun wouldn't it be to read more Soul Screamers books from Tod's point of view? This novella was such a tease, leaving me eager to read more!
In this novella we find out the true events behind Tod's death, how he got his reaper job and who it affects and will affect him in the future. We also get to know bad boy Nash, and how Tod was when he was still alive. We may or may not also get to read about Tod's and Kayla's first meeting...
Reaper once again shows what a fun, witty and kind person Tod is, and after finishing this novella I like him even more! If you're thinking about reading this novella, think no more - with its 64 pages it's a fast and fun read, and not to mention you can download it for free!
Rating: 4.5 of 5
Previous books in this series:
My Soul To Lose (free prequel novella)
My Soul To Take (#1)
My Soul To Save (#2)
My Soul To Keep (#3)
My Soul To Steal (#4)

2010's reading and blogging year started out great with me posting almost every day. But the second half of the year was not as good. I was busy with school and in October I posted an embarrassingly amount of 1 post...
